Game of Thrones - The Hardhome Embroidery

The Hardhome EmbroideryIn addition to Contact we also regularly publish E-books - each of these highlights a Guild or Branch project and shows in detail and gives a close up view of some of the wonderful work by our members.

One of our most successful recent Guild Projects was a large scale embroidery commissioned by HBO (Home Box Office Network) to promote the launch of the 6th series of Game of Thrones on dvd. It depicts a scene from the Battle of Hardhome featuring a lifesize figure of the Whitewalker Night King.

The Embroiderers' Guild led the design and production of the piece and invited stitch partners The Royal School of Needlework, Hand & Lock and Fine Cell Work to participate. The final image was selected by HBO in December. It features one of the most intense battle scenes in TV history - the massacre of Hardhome. The first design and production meeting took place just before Christmas 2015, stitching started in mid January 2016 and the piece, measuring 5 metres in length and 4 metres high (nearly 17ft x 13ft 6 inches), was completed during the second week of March 2016… an outstanding achievement by all concerned.

Our E-book describes the project journey in detail - click on the "Winter is Coming" logo to view the flipsnack:
