Stitch 116Hello...

We're well into winter and Stitch is here to brighten your day! With stunning scenes galore, you can cosy up with your copy and enjoy some real winter warmers. We've got a vast variety of landscapes, from a winter wonderland to a deserted desert. There are also some spectacular projects celebrating the beauty of the British countryside, where you can recreate the wild North East coastline or the rolling hills of the Peak District. If these don't float your boat, you can mix your media with a watercolour painted and embroidered piece set in a mystical marina. We've also got projects for those who like to think outside the box, with a tutorial on working with yarn, as well as a luminous mixed media landscape piece based on the artist Hundertwasser's quirky work. If you're more of a traditional textile artist, we've got a sublime whitework project from Trish Burr and a micro-landscape created using hardanger techniques.

There are also some fabulous features in this issue, with a focus on mixed media from amazing artists Cas Holmes and Nikki Parmenter. You can get hints and tips from a number of embroiderers on how to create perspective in stitch and hear from two sisters set on conquering the embroidery world.

Of course, we still have all of your regular features, including shopping, news (with a focus on Ely Cathedral and the travelling exhibition from the Embroiderers' Guild), templates, letters and social, distance learning, fantastic offers on John James needles and Aurifil threads with lots of chances to win a variety of stitching supplies, including a £900 Brother sewing machine.

So, grab your jacket, hitch up your hiking socks and take a walk across some lovely landscapes with us.

Happy Stitching!

On the cover: Beautiful landscapes to inspire..... On the Rocks

Free-motion your way across a watercoloured coastal scene celebrating the north east coast of England. Designed by textile artist Hellen Edwards, she says "I am highly influenced by my surroundings in my other works and this piece is no different; a full free-motion embroidery using textures and techniques that bring to life the movement of the rough, abandoned pier".

Little Yellow Boat

Little Yellow Boat

Try using both watercolour painting and embroidery to create this peaceful landscape. Annie Morris, the designer of this super project, lives by the water on the south coast of Devon and is inspired by her surroundings. She encourages our readers to interpret this piece in their own unique way.

Nature's Heart

Nature's Heart

Practice your perspective when creating this stunning Peak District scene with gorgeous colours and textures. Traditional drystone walls provide a fantastic opportunity to embroider different textures and embellish with flowers and weeds as you please.

Designed by Dhara Shah

The landscapes and cityscapes by Austrian artist Hundertwasser are richly coloured and vibrant. Hundertwasser produced highly decorative images with bold linear elements. A particular feature are Hundertwasser's so-called "lollipop trees" which populate the striped hillsides.

Designed by Nikki Parmenter, a Cheshire-based artist who specialises in mixed media based pieces.

Gorgeous Garden

Gorgeous Garden

Try your hand at a traditional technique by creating a micro-landscape with this hardanger design of a walled garden. Ilke Cochrane's design is created with a 164 squared stitch count; around 6.5 inches in size.
