Tours & Trips

The Guild works with trusted and experienced specialist suppliers to make available a range of tours and special interest trips. We try to cover a wide range of prices, destinations and experiences. The ‘Exotic Tours’ are very special – a unique opportunity to experience textiles and stitching in other cultures. The ‘Special tours’ are often linked to a workshop or course. We add entries on a frequent basis so please check here for the latest offers.

The Guild is currently in partnership with Brightwater Holidays and Exclusive Journeys Travel with Lesley Robin.

Go behind the scenes to discover a country through the richness of embroidery, textiles and craft with Exclusive Journeys Travel with Lesley Robin

The travel programmes are researched, organised and accompanied by Lesley Robin who is well known to many Embroiderers’ Guild members.

burma-2.jpgLesley Robin, was born in South Africa and she began leading special-interest tours toIndia in the 80s after settling in Dharamsala, exiled home of the Dalai Lama. She lived there for nearly 20 years and helped set up self-help projects with local weavers, dyers and spinners. Her knowledge of Eastern culture, Hinduism, Buddhism and the people, culture and rich heritage of the Indian Sub-continent is a result of her extensive travels throughout the region and beyond which she shares with those who travel with her.

Her tours provide a rare opportunity to engage with crafts men and women at a grassroots level, as well as to meet highly-skilled contemporary artisans in their homes and workshops, providing a very personal, in-depth interaction.

Burma2.jpgOn each tour Lesley arranges for the groups to go behind the scenes to discover a country through the richness of embroidery, textiles and crafts, often visiting self-help projects.

burma-.jpgIf you have an adventurous spirit, enjoy meeting people and take pleasure in photography, architecture and landscape, villages and markets, come and join us on a trip of a lifetime.
