HOME Project 2019

Member Project 2019 - HOME

Following the Capability Brown exhibitions in 2016, the hugely successful Page 17 in 2017 and, more recently, the poignant 100 Hearts in 2018, we now announce the project for 2019 – it is entitled “HOME”.

Invite us in and tell us what that word – HOME – means to you?

Weymouth Harbour Clutter

Is HOME the place you return to at the end of each day? A sanctuary – a place of warmth and respite away from the busy world outside?

  • Do you have fond memories of a childhood home, long since left behind?
  • Remember the 1970s when the kitchen was orange and the bathroom suite was avocado green?
  • The 1980s and 90s when walls were sponged or rag-rolled, curtains were swags and tails, and every wallpaper had a matching border.
  • Then, in the 2000s, there was the open plan kitchen, distressed paintwork and shabby chic. Do you remember the colours and designs of Habitat, Laura Ashley or Orla Kiely?
  • Do you picture one specific room - the family kitchen where you watched your mother baking; the living room, with ornaments on the windowsill, kept tidy for visitors; or the dining room with the posh china?
  • Have you lived on a grand yacht or brightly coloured canal boat; in a high rise flat or converted barn?
  • HOME should mean shelter and safety – but for some it is not.
  • What of the natural world..….the nest that is home to a bird, the river to a spawning salmon who returns each year, the artic vastness home to the polar bear, and the woodland burrow to a fox?
  • HOMEs for mankind, what are we doing to the natural habitat of the animal world?

Invite us in, and tell us, in stitch, what the word HOME means to you.

The project is open to all members

If you would like to participate, please click on this link which will take you to the Members' side of the website (you will be asked to log in).

Here you will find important deadline dates, full project guidelines, contact details and other documents. We will be contacting Regional Chairs to explore the possibility of other venues, but are anticipating showing HOME at the Knitting and Stitching shows in London and Harrogate 2019 as well as the Sewing show at the NEC in March 2020. The Guild stand at these shows is fast becoming one of the ‘go to’ exhibitions for visitors. Please help us continue this theme and join with us.
