Branch: Solihull

Introduction: Solihull Embroiderers’ Guild is open to anyone with an interest in embroidery and textiles – no experience necessary!
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm at the Solihull Methodist Church Hall, situated next to Solihull train station and local bus stops. Parking is available at the Church. Visitors are always welcome and may attend up to 3 meetings at a charge of £6 per meeting. At our monthly meetings we have a speaker from the embroidery/textile world, who usually brings along plenty of samples and pictures of their work to inspire us all. After the talk, there is time to view the work more closely and socialise.
In addition to the monthly meetings, we hold regular afternoon and evening stitching groups, held at the Solihull Methodist Church Hall. Members meet to socialise, stitch and exchange ideas.
We have a programme of exciting workshops held on Saturdays from 10 -4pm. These are led either by a well known tutor or by one of our members and they are a wonderful opportunity to learn or develop a stitching technique.

Our programmes for 2019 are attached below - do have a look and come along to one of the meetings. Our meeting on Tuesday 7 May will be an informal evening led by members with a Show and Tell of embroidery work and maybe progress our postcards project. It would be an opportunity for visitors to talk to members about the branch.
The next meeting with a speaker will be on 4 June when textile artist Kathleen Murphy will talk to us about her adventures in stitch - accompanied by an owl and a hare. Intrigued ? Why not come and join us for the evening.

Also coming up are workshops on Saturdays -

13 April Suzette Smart workshop making Mixed Media Textile Books (sewing machine required)

11 May Janet Humphrey workshop creating vintage fabric and embellished Victorian style postcards

8 June One of our members will lead a workshop to create hand stitched embroideries incorporating objects such as shells or other bits and pieces - lots of textural play.

See programme for details of how to book on these workshops.

In 2018 Solihull Embroiderers y hosted the Regional day for members of the West Midlands Embroiderers Guild to share a day of celebration of stitch and stitchers. We had an update on the Guild and a lecture by textile artist Jennifer Collier on "The Art of Paper and Stitch ". There were traders stalls, sales tables, raffle , tombola and displays of embroidery including work from the Guild's historic collection and competition entries on the theme of "All Creatures Great and Small".

We followed that with our Ruby Exhibition and Retrospective celebrating Solihull Embroiderers' 40th anniversary at the Core Theatre and Arts Complex, Solihull.
