Branch: Solihull

Introduction: Solihull Embroiderers’ Guild is open to anyone with an interest in embroidery and textiles – no experience necessary!
At our monthly meetings we have a speaker from the embroidery/textile world, who usually brings along plenty of samples and pictures of their work to inspire us all. After the talk, there is time to view the work more closely and socialise.
In addition to the monthly meetings, we hold regular afternoon and evening stitching groups when we meet to socialise, stitch and exchange ideas.
We have a programme of exciting workshops held on Saturdays from 10 -4pm. These are led either by a well known tutor or by one of our members and they are a wonderful opportunity to learn or develop a stitching technique.

Our programmes for 2019 are attached below - do have a look and come along to one of the meetings.
On 2 July textile designer, Caroline Nixon who is a member of Warwickshire Open Studios will talk to us about her eco printing and shibori techniques.

And on 3 September we will be going behind the scenes with a talk about the making of the costumes for the productions by Solihull Methodists Singing and Dancing in Harmony.

Also coming up are workshops on Saturdays -
13 July Landscapes in Batik with Jenny O'Leary
12 October Fragaria - Hand embroidery techniques - with Nicola Jarvis
Advance booking is essential for the workshops - See programme for details (for the July workshop please email SolihullSec@embroiderersguild.co.uk)

Solihull Embroiderers Guild are an active and social group.
In 2018 we hosted the Regional day for members of the West Midlands Embroiderers Guild to share a day of celebration of stitch and stitchers. We had an update on the Guild and a lecture by textile artist Jennifer Collier on "The Art of Paper and Stitch ". There were traders stalls, sales tables, raffle , tombola and displays of embroidery including work from the Guild's historic collection and competition entries on the theme of "All Creatures Great and Small".
We followed that with our Ruby Exhibition and Retrospective celebrating Solihull Embroiderers' 40th anniversary at the Core Theatre and Arts Complex, Solihull. We also celebrated our anniversary with a Ruby dinner.

This year we are busy with our Postcard Challenge - making textile postcards. We opened up the challenge to other groups and the public via facebook - and the world responded! We are now swapping cards with other stitchers in the UK and the USA, Canada and India. It is very exciting.

If you share our passion for stitch and creative textiles we would love you to come and join our branch. We join as Guild members and then pay a branch fee of £20 per year and small meeting fees to cover the costs of providing an extensive activity programme.
Come along to one of our meetings and find out more - Visitors are always welcome and may attend up to 3 meetings at a charge of £6 per meeting.
