Branch: Winchester

Introduction: Although we are quite a large branch with over 70 members, we are a friendly bunch and make new members very welcome. Our members have a great range of interests and abilities. Some are just interested in hearing about embroidery but do not do any stitching themselves whilst others range from beginners to experienced stitchers, either hand or machine . We also have several recognised textile artists in our midst.

We meet 11 times a year and have a full programme of events. Around eight of our meetings involve a speaker - the subjects cover an extremely large spectrum of interests and are usually accompanied by slides and a display of work. At these meetings there is access to our large library of embroidery books which are available for free loan to members. There is also a sales table which always attracts a lot of activity.

We also have a members' working afternoon once or twice a year when some of our experienced members run mini-workshops for other members. This is always a popular time and helps new members to integrate into our branch. The remaining two meetings are the AGM in October and our Christmas celebration.

In addition to regular branch meetings we hold four workshops a year, usually held the day after our branch meeting and often involving the speaker from the meeting.

Members are kept up to date with the various exhibitions that are held in the area via our lively website. Each October we arrange a coach trip to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, London.

We hold our own exhibition in the Discovery Centre, Winchester, usually about every three years - the most recent was in December 2016/January 2017. This is always very well attended by members of the public and gives our members a chance to display and sell their work.
