Branch: Isleworth & District

Introduction: We are a thriving, innovative and active branch, meeting once a month except in December and look forward to seeing you there. Our Young Embroiderers, Fun with Threads, usually meet on the first Saturday of each month.
All meetings are open to visitors, for which there is a charge of £5.00, so you can come along to meet us and see if what we do is what you like. Anyone who is interested is welcome; it doesn’t matter whether or not you can stitch, just that you enjoy looking at and learning about embroidery. We like to think we are a friendly bunch of all ages; no one is too young or too old.
We have a wide range of experience and skills; some of us are happy to work from commercial kits, others work their own designs; some have studied at various colleges and schools whilst others learnt at home or taught themselves. We are all still learning and exploring. You might find yourself dyeing fabrics in plastic bags, wielding a hot soldering iron, using car spray paint to decorate fabric or even painting on Bond-a-Web. We’re not totally crazy but we do wonder at times, well at least some of us do. Above all we have fun and enjoy ourselves.
Having paid your annual subscription, (Sept – Sept) which is currently (Oct 2015) £62.00, including £30.00 to the Embroiderers' Guild, you will be given a copy of our current year’s programme and you may attend all of our branch meetings without any further payment. There is a very modest charge of 20p for a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. There are reduced price subscriptions for Life Members of the Guild and for those who have already paid the annual Guild membership fee. Now (Oct 2015)it is £32.

For young people between the ages of 5 and 17 we run Fun with Threads. Again visitors are welcome to try it out but to continue must join the Young Embroiderers section of the Guild. Membership is £10 per year per
child, payable to the Guild, and a further £10 per year per child payable to the Branch. The session fee is £5 per child.
The branch runs a Members’ Embroidery Workshop on Monday afternoons. It’s known informally as The Monday Group. Activities are planned on a termly basis, 3 terms a year. For Autumn 2015 the theme is taken from two projects in Stitch! magazine but interpreted in one's own way. Anyone who is a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild is welcome to join us, up to a maximum of 16 students. The cost is £45 for the autumn term to cover room hire only plus the cost of materials.
A Thursday Stitching Group meets the 2nd Thursday of the month, from 7.30 to 10.00 pm. Members bring along their current project to work on, chat to each other and look at what their friends are doing. We can also help each other out with ideas, learning a new stitch and so on. Tea and biscuits are available throughout the evening on a help yourself basis at 20p. There is an additional charge for attendance.
There are also Saturday Workshops twice a year, social events and exhibitions. Outside visits and the like are arranged from time to time.
There is an additional cost for these, should you choose to participate, which is advised when the event is promoted.
The St John’s Centre is opposite St John’s church. There is a small car park on the north side of the building and in the evenings parking is allowed in the Business Park opposite. Buses 117 and H37 come down St John’s Road and Isleworth station is quite close by.
