National Celebration of Stitch 2019


The date for the National Day of Stitch this year was moved to the Saturday 22nd June 2019. This was decided by the Embroiderers' Guild Council of Regional Chairs following comments that August was a difficult month to get anything organised. We hope this will allow more branches to participate.

The theme this year the theme followed the lead of the Guild’s big project, HOME. But with a slight twist - to use the letters of the word or the word itself to create inspiring patterns to allow the public to have a go. The letters could be used to create a banner or stay as individual pieces to have fun with learning and experimenting with new stitches.

Our new Trustee for Design, Loetitia Gibier, has provided some instructions and templates that could be used to create the letters and these are still available on the Members' side of the website.

Here's the first report from the South Somerset Branch on their successful day:

South SomersetOn Saturday 22nd June-National Stitch Day-South Somerset Embroiderers held a ‘ come and join us stitch’ stall outside the Brewhouse theatre in Taunton.

South SomersetBoth the demonstrators on the stall and visiting passers by, ranged in age between 11 to 86! People showed interest in what we were doing and several expressed an interest in joining us.

People enjoyed sharing past sewing memories and we felt it was a worthwhile morning.
