Amelia Wylan – Guild Graduate in 2025 – explores the connection between natural light and enhanced wellbeing.
Amelia graduated with a BA(Hons) in Textile Design from Nottingham Trent University. She says:
I first began textiles as a child when I was inspired by my family to carry out small sewing
projects at home. My skills developed gradually throughout school and during my Foundation in Art and Design, where I chose textiles as my specialism.

It was from this point onwards that my passion for textiles deepened and I also began to focus on sustainability within my practice, integrating bio-design alongside natural resources.

I have now completed a Ba Honours degree in Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University, where I developed skills in print, weave, knit and embroidery. I chose the latter to become my specialism and learnt how to use a wide range of industrial and domestic
embroidery machinery, as well as techniques in hand embroidery and fabric manipulation.
Alongside my studies I have deepened my skills and broadened my interest through extra curricular opportunities such as internships, leading workshops, and supporting community textile events, these have been integral in informing the sustainability, wellbeing and community focus within my practice
.

‘Wisps of Light’ explores the connection between natural light and enhanced wellbeing. My inspiration comes from cyanotypes, light photography, and generative AI, which capture the ephemeral beauty of changing contours, twisted forms, and delicate gradients.

My textile samples focus on sustainability, combining naturally dyed silks and root biomaterial with digital and hand embroidery to create designs suitable for immersive interior hangings and room-dividing screens. Tonal colour combinations evoke calmness, grounding, and escapism; while the contrasting opacities cast shadows that echo the rhythm of changing light.

My collection offers balance and retreat for customers seeking alignment with the earth’s natural energies.
