2026 Guild Graduate Eden Kingston studied at at Falmouth University, gaining a degree in Textile Design

I use textiles as a medium of illustration. My work largely draws on cultural and social themes that I have personal and familial links with. Ranging from tarot reading, an interest inherited from my Nana to the UK deep house scene that I’ve been raised in; I aspire to immerse people in my art and communicate my experiences of its contexts. I explore my drawing style through digital embroidery with additions of applique, beadwork and digital print.
Dancing at Duvet

I have been raised in the UK Deep House scene. Named after the Bristol based House collective “Duvet Vous” that my family started in 1999 and still runs today, this collection and largescale backdrop encapsulate the vibrant and atmospheric community of the parties. Using photographs ranging from the 90s to now that I translated into stitch, I have interlinked scenes of friends and family at parties to convey the connectedness and collective identity within this community. The different rigs that I have danced too are highlighted in the foreground of the backdrop as they are the front runners and glue of the scene. A blended-out self-portrait of me dancing fades out into the darker background to communicate the connection to the music and the crowd as you dance.

Medieval Arcana

Inspired by Tarot Cards and Medieval Archetypes, this collection is designed for the next predicted ‘Medieval revival’ in 30 years’ time. As time passes, technology develops, so ‘Medieval Arcana’ utilises digital embroidery, expecting this to be a much wider used process in the future. This is combined with the hand process of beading as the historical aesthetic of the collection would still call for traditional techniques to be intertwined with the progressing technology. The futuristic flavour of this revival is also evident in the colour palette as it features bright threads which appear almost fluorescent over dark, moody fabrics – utilising colours that were less achievable in the past whilst juxtaposing the old and new.

Tarot, which I have been taught by my family, greatly inspired the collection with each design being based on either a particular card or an aspect of the deck (such as swords, wands, cups and pentacles). This has been fused with Medieval archetypes in ways such as the “jester” character representing The Fool card. Tarot is also cyclical in nature, and this comes through in the collection that features a range of repeat pattern designs to symbolise both the turning of the fashion cycle and the wheel of fortune. Designed in collaboration with fashion designer Leif Davidson for High-end, ready-to-wear, womenswear, this collection transports you back to archaic times whilst also looking ahead to the future.
