The Embroiderers' Guild Beryl Dean Award for Teaching Excellence in Embroidery & Design in Textile Art 2021

Since its establishment by the Embroiderers’ Guild, in partnership with Beryl Dean Education Trust in 2013, this award for teaching excellence has attracted high quality applications, demonstrating the resurgence of embroidery as a key component of Textile Art learning. Winners and commendation awards have been made to teachers in both higher, further and adult education throughout the UK.

We are looking for a teacher who can demonstrate effective and ongoing teaching success; a talent that provides the next generation with an outstanding practitioner; someone who generously and tirelessly inspires and enhances the learning experience and cares passionately about the future of embroidery.

The Judging Panel aims to make awards to those teaching in a Further or Higher Education institution and to those involved in an established teaching practice in adult and community education.

The prize pool is £1,000 to help inspire the winners to take their practice and teaching to an even higher level.

Teachers may nominate themselves, or a peer or student may initiate an application.
Applications will be judged on the basis of evidence offered in response to the Award Criteria.  Judging will be in two stages; a shortlist will be drawn up and shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview.

The successful candidate(s) are invited to attend the Embroiderers’ Guild AGM and also a public presentation of the award takes place, usually in central London.  In the case that UK Government restrictions on meetings are in place, alternative arrangements will be made for presentation.
