Getting to know more about Mailia Brown – Guild Graduate in 2026
2026 Guild Graduate Mailia Brown studied at Arts University Bournemouth, gaining a degree in Textiles
My project explores gardens and growth through Impressionist-inspired imagery and textile practices, questioning the hierarchy between fine art and craft. By combining digitally printed and hand-painted wallpapers with references to embroidery, it highlights the undervaluation of feminised labour and examines how contemporary design can challenge traditional distinctions between art, decoration, and gendered making.
I chose a hotel and spa context to create a calming, immersive environment where themes of growth, nature, and sensory experience enhance wellbeing while showcasing the decorative and conceptual value of textile-inspired design.
