The Virtual Community of the Embroiderers’ Guild
What started as a bold idea has become a reality – a dedicated online space where members can meet, converse, explore, and discover the many aspects of embroidery and the textile arts.
Like any branch, it needs the input of its members but, unlike most, you will can visit on any day, and at any time. For those who may have been unable to attend a local branch, ThreadIT provides easy access to our community, enabling them to benefit from the exchange of knowledge, skills and experience that our branches provide.
All are welcomed, from tentative beginners, through to lifetime embroiderers and professional textile artists.
So, what will you find if you join ThreadIT?
Currently we have well over 500 members. There are over 60 posts in the blog, well over 150 entries in the Stitch directory, 19 issues of vintage magazines in the library (including the 1940 issue of ‘Embroidery’) and 15 pages of vintage motifs for members to explore. Eight artists, including some of the Guild Graduates and Scholars, are featured in our portfolios of work, and there are also six pages of inspirational images to look through.
Oh – and there are our community groups, where members can talk among themselves, share their work and ask for help or advice if they need it. This is just the beginning. Work continues to scan and load magazines, motifs and patterns. Volunteers are busy stitching examples for projects and we are looking forward to holding live online sessions to help members navigate the ThreadIT site and make best use of the community groups.
We believe that ThreadIT provides a forum that will help members develop their skills, find ideas and inspiration and enable them to share their love of embroidery and textile art.
