Getting to know more about Lola Trivunovic – Guild Graduate in 2024
Lola Trivunovic graduated with a degree in Textile Design from Falmouth University. She says:
In my work I have trawled through the many diaries, books and embroidery magazines previously owned by a lady named Hazel Sims, which her family had kindly donated to our archive collection at Falmouth Uni.

She was very passionate about hand embroidery, and many of her books have been covered in beautiful embroidered fabrics with a very distinct style.

I’ve created a collection of Irish embroidered tie-on pockets and posters as a response to the immense amount of visual inspiration I found in the use of typefaces, colour, the structure of the magazine pages, and of course the illustrations in the materials collected by Hazel throughout her life.

There are also a few hints of Hazel herself throughout, using a few of her saved hand embroidery techniques and the inclusion of her photos and handwriting.

I didn’t expect to find so much inspiration from
an archives collection but now I think it’s going to have to be
part of my regular routine in terms of designing!
