We are making great progress photographing our Collection. During this pilot stage we are photographing a range of items large and flat such as embroidered hangings, awkward shapes such as the felt NDS bull and items that need props such as hats and dresses. This will give us an idea of how long the process will take for the whole collection so we can plan accordingly.
There is an unbelievably wide range of pieces in the Collection. Here is a quick snap of an item Anne recently unwrapped from a box. The label reads: Man in Turban, 1796 Eliza Skinner – human hair/silk embroidery
Look out for…the Elizabethan Double Ladder Stitch in the RSN Stitch Bank. There is a photo of a fabulous Elizabethan panel from the Guild Collection as an example see here: https://rsnstitchbank.org/stitch/elizabethan-double-ladder-stitch (scroll to bottom). You will be able to see this piece in more glorious detail once it is available online. You might recognise it as the panel is represented on the front and back cover of Jaqui Carey’s Book ‘Elizabethan Stitches – A guide to historic English needlework’.
